Tom has wide experience across all areas of family law, specialising in overcoming financial issues during separation/divorce, arrangements involving children, and unmarried couples.

His previous work includes extensively instructing lawyers in different jurisdictions and managing a range of extensive, complicated cases that required long-term strategic planning and detailed implementation.

In 2022, Tom won a Citywealth Future Leaders Award, which recognised emerging talent and social contribution in young professionals for the wealth management industry.

Tom is part of the VK Mediation Team, offering cost-effective alternatives for couples hoping to resolve their disputes amicably and efficiently.

Before joining the firm in February 2015, Tom trained and worked at Irwin Mitchell. He studied History at the University of Nottingham before taking his professional examinations at Nottingham Law School and gaining a distinction.

He qualified in 2014 and is now a member of Resolution.

Highlights

  • Tom successfully resisted an application made against his client for an order that the client pay the other side’s legal costs of the divorce and financial remedy proceedings.
  • Assisted a father with successfully resisting allegations of child neglect made by his ex-partner and securing firm and regular contact arrangements with his young daughter.
  • Successfully resisted, both at first instance and on appeal, a husband’s application to terminate his client’s ongoing entitlement to spousal maintenance.
  • Played an instrumental role in an international case securing an urgent Hemain injunction (preventing the husband from pursuing proceedings in a foreign country).
  • Acted for a husband in a case where ‘non-matrimonial’ assets were at the forefront of legal arguments for a significant departure from an equal division.
  • Involved in extremely difficult and hard-fought cases concerning children, where there were allegations of parental alienation and drug abuse, as well as other mental health issues affecting the parents.
  • Undertook a lengthy case in the High Court involving Russian nationals of significant wealth where all the assets were owned by offshore trusts.

“Your time, thoughtfulness, direct approach with advice and understanding helped me feel stronger when I felt super, properly weak… defeated even. It seemed to go on and forever, and I might have given up and caved in had it not been for your kindness and encouragement”
